STASERA LAUNCH

An intimate affair was held at the modish and contemporary venue Late Night Valentine where Danielle Marklew, a fresh face to the Perth fashion scene, showcased her collection to a fashionista crowd consisting of bloggers, models, stylists, potential buyers and friends.

Hosted by the fashion event specialists, The Studio, we knew we were in for an embellished evening.

The venue was arranged in a theatre-style/amphitheatre setting and we were served the ideal fashion meal of decadent tapas, chocolate and champagne in stylish champagne saucers.

The tone was set with the combination of moonlight and candlelight complimenting the clothing line.

As the show commenced, models made an entrance in modern party dresses in luxurious stretch fabric, soft suede-feel material, light-weight denim and lace; with ruching and original prints.

The finale had the models in elegant and modish evening wear holding balloon letters that spelled out the brand's name. They graced us on stage with Danielle and with all eyes on them they released the balloons in a theatrical display to signify Stasera's launch into society.

From the show our favourites included the black ruched gown with tie-up bow straps and the glimmering Incognito Jumpsuit.

Stasera's debut was a simple and sophisticated soirée giving off Bond-like-vibes, with the fashion-foward crowd in tuxes, chic black dresses and sparkly attire. It was a charming evening enjoyed by the squad ladies and we would like nothing more than to welcome Stasera to Perth's Fashion Scene. We look forward to Danielle's future designs and predict that we'll be seeing more of her clothing worn to future fashion events.

THE WINTER EDIT:

HOW TO GLAM THAT KNIT?!

Glamour and knitwear are two words rarely mentioned in the same sentence. When we think of knitwear/jumpers we tend to think of the words daggy, unflattering, baggy, loose, comfy and home-style; not smart, modish and fashionable. We’re here to tell you that you can totally rock a knit/jumper and look super cute! You just have to find the right one!

5 knits/jumpers you need this WINTER are:

  1. The Grey Knit
  2. The Statement Jumper
  3. The Simple Light Knit
  4. The Colourful Knit
  5.  The Turtle Neck.

THE GREY KNIT:

Grey is your standard winter colour. Everyone will be wearing it and everyone looks good in it! Stand out with your grey knit by selecting one with interesting sleeves and in a marble grey.

Our current favourite grey knit is the edgy Bonnie Balloon Sleeve Jumper by Shona Joy. You can wear this knit with white jeans and nude sock boots or if you are tall with the black Asilio Because You Left Knit Skirt, as pictured below, with black lace-up heels or ankle boots.

We styled it with a vintage frilled black skirt, famous footwear’s black boots with side laces and added a finishing touch of bold black and gold earrings from Lovisa.

THE STATEMENT JUMPER:

This is the sweater you’ll be going out for dinner in. We’ve selected the FROSTY white Siren Jumper by Jonte with gorgeous detailing and teamed it with another Jonte piece, the steel grey galvanised wrap skirt. We then matched the metallic beading on the sleeves with the gold Savannah clutch by Jessica Bratich, gold beaded tassel earrings from H&M and metallic silver heels from Miss Shop.

THE SIMPLE LIGHT KNIT:

This classic knit can be worn anywhere, to work, a catch up with the girls, shopping, a lunch date etc. It needs to be well fitted, have neutral tones and be the right length. Not too long and not too short!

In the picture below H wears the Column Knit Jumper which she's styled with vibrant blue jeans from Forever New, pink satin heels by Wittner, a terracotta bag by Sportsgirl and a pair of tortoise shell sunglasses from Iceland

3 other ways you can wear this knit is with
  1. A knitted midi skirt and some nude sock boots
  2. White jeans and brown boots.
  3. A high waisted black office skirt and black pointed heels or lace -up heels.

The options are limitless!

THE COLOURFUL KNIT:

It is a tendency to get carried away with all the grey, black and white hues at wintertime so take the opportunity to really pop this winter by adding a bit of colour.

This cashmere, nautical blue, Classic Swing V Sweater by Alessandra not only keeps you warm but against some bleached white jeans or a black long sleeved top and fluted hem skirt can diminish those winter blues.

Experiment with striking reds, blush pinks and emerald greens!!!

THE TURTLE NECK:

Staying with the colourful knit trend who says we can’t mix the trends together. Get a bright peachy TURTLE NECK from By Nicola and team it with a vivid blue pair of skinny leg jeans, perhaps with a knee split, or with white jeans by James Jeans. Turtle necks can look amazing if you get the right one, even if you have a short neck like H. Make sure that the turtle neck is long enough that it laps over. If the turtle neck is short and you do have a short neck it can really emphasize your short neck which you don’t want!

YES!

NO!
(this turtle neck does suite this model but if you have a short neck or an athletic built it won't look as good).

The best advice we can give you when shopping for knitwear or jumpers is make sure they fit really well, around the shoulder, around the arms and that it’s a good length.

The next winter edit will cover what to wear on a night out in Perth’s cooler months so stay tuned.

FRIDAY'S FASHION FEAST

Set Menu:

Featuring BETTY TRAN and ATLAS PEARLS AND PERFUMES.

Have you reached that point in your life where sleep is vital and you can’t afford too many late nights? You just want to have a pleasing lunch with an element of entertainment? Well gather you girls or even your mum like I did ;), and prepare yourselves for an event that never goes out of style! This is an event that you could be attending 20 years down the track and not feel old. It’s so Sex & the City it hurts!

It probably isn’t recommended for all my high spirited gal pals in their early twenties but more for the career driven worker or mum who just needs to relax with some delectable food, a flute of champagne and some classy fashion.

Entrée:

For starters we were shown to our seats and welcomed to a fresh salad and seafood buffet. (The squid and scallops were divine).

Main:

Our barramundi came out as well as the models dressed head to toe in current Betty Tran threads and timelessly elegant Atlas Pearls. The charming and gracious models from Scene Model Management worked the room and approached each table allowing the guests to take a closer look at those striking pearls as well as the detailing of the couture collection.

Dessert:

As our orange creme brûlée and dark chocolate parfait was distributed, Betty Tran who had just flown from Vietnam Fashion Week that day addressed the crowd elucidating the message behind her clothing that we should embrace every woman’s uniqueness. She wants her garments to cater for every woman and made it clear that every woman is beautiful regardless of their race, size or age.

Shopping opportunities were presented on the day with an Atlas Pearls display, and discounts from both stores.

We also had the privilege of meeting the super talented Betty Tran.

Below are some snaps taken from her Instagram page of some her designs from Vietnam Fashion Week that we just adore!

Lastly for a bit of excitement there were a number of door prizes that could be won including a $200 Betty Tran voucher, a $300 voucher at Dr. Anh, tickets to Sexpo, tickets to Kooza, hampers, a free facial, a bottle of Piper-Heidsieck Champagne etc. To our delight my lucky mother won two tickets to the West Australian Ballet so I suppose that’s where you’ll be seeing us next before some more brunching on Mothers Day ;).

To the event I went for a more classic look with a hint of edge so I wore the timeless Love Ruler Dress by Bec & Bridge, some dramatic statement earrings by Christie Nicolaides, the on trend Savannah clutch by Jessica Bratich in gold and a pair of pink satin heels by Wittner. Nothing like a good mix of pink, gold and maroon for this autumn season!

Overall I couldn’t have asked for a better afternoon. It was a pleasant way to unwind and escape from the busyness of life.

HOW TO DRESS, WHEN YOU'RE EXPECTING!

Motherhood has always and will always be an exciting and challenging chapter in ones life. Your hormones are changing, the cravings kick in, you can’t get a good nights rest and you don’t feel like you have the same amount of energy as you used to. On top of all this your body changes rapidly and you can’t get into the clothes you usually wear. So what’s our advice?

Well everyone has a different opinion on maternity wear. Mature aged mums tend to think that you should only wear loose, flowy dresses and tops while young mums can be more adventurous wearing more tight fitted apparel. I feel strongly that there is no right or wrong answer on how to dress when your pregnant it just all comes down to personal style and what makes you feel confident. If you’re a younger mum and want to dress more conservatively now that you’re expecting then do so. If you’re an older mum and you’re proud of your body then don’t feel forced to cover up, channel you inner Kim K. and Queen B! If you want to wear a bikini then you go ahead honey! You know your body shape better than anyone so don’t let anyone influence you to change the way you dress!

However with that said do try to AVOID:

  • Crop tops

  • Anything high waisted

  • Loose, long sleeved maxis if you’re short.

These items can be very unflattering.

I’ve also noticed that the main concern that mothers to be have during this wardrobe stage of their life is how do I make myself “look pregnant” and not just big. The “pregnant look” is looking pretty much the same but just with a fuller stomach. For me, to achieve the “pregnant look” instead of buying maternity wear that I’d probably never wear again unless another bub popped into my life I opted to continue wearing clothing that I usually go for just in the size above and in a stretchy material.

Buying A Dress/Dressing Up For An Occasion: Because of my bigger bust tighter dresses have always looked better on me! When pregnant, a tighter dress will show off your curves and the slim parts of your body whereas a flowy dress can make you pretty much feel like a ball. Glamazon is a good stretchy dress label that you can get from LIVE Clothing.

Casual Corner: I do feel though when casually dressing, flowy and loose fitted tops work well with fitted bottoms especially if you have great legs.

Shoes: You’re going to feel heavier so always wear comfy shoes. Your feet will also swell so you may need to purchase a new pair of shoes in a bigger size. Avoid high heels. If you really need to wear heels because you’re attending a formal event just wear a nice pair with the smallest heel you can find.

Jewellery: Avoid wearing rings. As you progress with your pregnancy your hands may swell so any jewellery on the hands may get stuck which will cause you some discomfort. So yes the wedding ring and engagement ring has to go but only for now ;).

I hope this has helped. Remember ladies you know what suits your body shape and yes even though you’ve gained weight your shape remains the same so stay true to your own personal style! Always try to highlight the slimmer parts of your body, your best assets and you’re baby bump.

Tight stretchy dresses, loose fitted tops and well fitted bottoms works best for me.
