HOW TO DRESS, WHEN YOU'RE EXPECTING!
Motherhood has always and will always be an exciting and
challenging chapter in ones life. Your hormones are changing, the cravings kick
in, you can’t get a good nights rest and you don’t feel like you have the same
amount of energy as you used to. On top of all this your body changes rapidly and
you can’t get into the clothes you usually wear. So what’s our advice?
Well everyone has a different opinion on maternity wear. Mature
aged mums tend to think that you should only wear loose, flowy
dresses and tops while young mums can be more adventurous wearing more tight
fitted apparel. I feel strongly that there is no right or wrong answer on how
to dress when your pregnant it just all comes down to personal style and what
makes you feel confident. If you’re a younger mum and want to dress more
conservatively now that you’re expecting then do so. If you’re an older mum and
you’re proud of your body then don’t feel forced to cover up, channel you inner
Kim K. and Queen B! If you want to wear a bikini then you go ahead honey! You
know your body shape better than anyone so don’t let anyone influence you to
change the way you dress!
However with that said do try to AVOID:
- Crop tops
- Anything high waisted
- Loose, long sleeved maxis if you’re short.
These items can be very unflattering.
I’ve also noticed that the main concern that mothers to be
have during this wardrobe stage of their life is how do I make myself “look
pregnant” and not just big. The “pregnant look” is looking pretty much the same
but just with a fuller stomach. For me, to achieve the “pregnant look” instead
of buying maternity wear that I’d probably never wear again unless another bub
popped into my life I opted to continue wearing clothing that I usually go for
just in the size above and in a stretchy material.
Buying A Dress/Dressing
Up For An Occasion: Because of my bigger bust tighter dresses have always
looked better on me! When pregnant, a tighter dress will show off your curves and
the slim parts of your body whereas a flowy dress can make you pretty much feel
like a ball. Glamazon is a good stretchy dress label that you can get from LIVE
Clothing.
Casual Corner: I
do feel though when casually dressing, flowy and loose fitted tops work well
with fitted bottoms especially if you have great legs.
Shoes: You’re
going to feel heavier so always wear comfy shoes. Your feet will also swell so
you may need to purchase a new pair of shoes in a bigger size. Avoid high
heels. If you really need to wear heels because you’re attending a formal event
just wear a nice pair with the smallest heel you can find.
Jewellery: Avoid
wearing rings. As you progress with your pregnancy your hands may swell so any
jewellery on the hands may get stuck which will cause you some discomfort. So
yes the wedding ring and engagement ring has to go but only for now ;).
I hope this has helped. Remember ladies you know what suits
your body shape and yes even though you’ve gained weight your shape remains the
same so stay true to your own personal style! Always try to highlight the
slimmer parts of your body, your best assets and you’re baby bump.
Tight stretchy dresses, loose fitted tops and
well fitted bottoms works best for me.
